How a Toastmasters Meeting Works
A Toastmasters meeting is a hands-on workshop where members build speaking and leadership skills in a relaxed, supportive setting. Clubs usually have 20 to 40 members who meet weekly, biweekly or monthly, and a typical meeting lasts 60–90 minutes. There's no instructor; instead, members evaluate each other's presentations, and that feedback is central to the program's success. Participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, run meetings, and practice timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Members strengthen communication skills by working through the early levels of the Pathways curriculum, which lays a foundation in public speaking, and grow leadership skills by taking on meeting roles. With this learn-by-doing approach, members aren't lectured about leadership — they're given responsibilities and mentoring, then asked to lead.

Joining Is Easy — Just a Few Simple Steps
- Step 1: Visit a Toastmasters club. Use the how to find a club tool to locate clubs near you. Every group has its own personality, so you may want to visit more than one. Your visit is free, and some clubs may let you come back as often as you like. Meetings take place seven days a week, in the morning, afternoon and evening, so it's easy to find a time and place that suits you. It's a good idea to call or email ahead to confirm a group's meeting time and location.
- Step 2: At the meeting, ask the vice president membership for a membership application and complete it.
- Step 3: Hand your application and dues to the vice president membership at the club. Once the existing members vote you in, the club officer will send your application and fees to Toastmasters' World Headquarters. After your membership application and dues are accepted, you'll have access to the Pathways curriculum.
