Greetings, fellow Toastmasters,

Below are some updates from the trio about what’s happening around the District.  As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

District Leadership Committee Updates…  As you are probably aware, Bryan Jolley and the Toastmasters District Leadership Committee have been busy interviewing candidates and preparing to present the slate of officers for the Spring elections.  There have been many changes this year to Toastmasters International Protocol 9.0: District Campaign and Elections.  Lots of questions have been raised by members, candidates, and officers.  If you haven’t had a chance to familiarize yourselves with the new changes to Protocol 9.0 (linked above), I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. This is especially important if you are a nominee. In the meantime, if you have any pressing questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Bryan or to District Services.

Open House Training… Our Public Relations Manager, Richard Wolfe, is hosting a series of calls on open houses, specifically how to hold an effective open house that will grow your club by 4 to 12 members per event.  There are two calls left in the series.  Information for each is provided below.  Please feel free to contact Richard for more information.

Contests…  Our spring contests for International Speech and Evaluation will kick off soon.  Dates for Area, Division and District contests are being added as they are confirmed to the District 68 website here.

Road to DTM: How You Can Become A Distinguished Toastmaster… The pinnacle of the Toastmasters program is to become a Distinguished Toastmaster.  Yes, you can become a DTM! In this fun and energetic session, our esteemed DTM panel (Jeff Harris, Kathleen Newsom, and Tina Guillot) will share proven strategies and motivation to become a DTM.  Click here to register and learn more.

Workshops on “Improving Management Skills” – There will be two more opportunities to learn how to improve your management skills. The first session will be hosted by Dave Reid on March 4th in Lake Charles.  Click here for more information and to register for Dave’s session.  The second session will be hosted by Chic Miller on March 18th in Kenner.  Click here for more information and to register for Chic’s session.

Club Officers Training… The second round of training for club officers is wrapping up and attendance has been reported to World Headquarters.  Click here to review the dashboard report and ensure that your officers have been trained and have received credit.  Congratulations to Gregory Cole of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church Toastmasters and Rickie Davis of New Orleans Toastmasters who were each winners of an educational package developed by World Champion of Public Speaking, Ed Tate.  Greg’s and Rickie’s names were randomly drawn (during a recent makeup session) from all club officers who attended one of the four main sessions of training.  There is one more opportunity left for club officers to be trained at a district-sponsored training session and receive credit under the Distinguished Club Program. A final makeup session will be held in Beaumont on Tuesday, February 28th, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, 3920 W. Carden.  If you are interested in attending this training, please contact Division A Director, Annie Svaty.

“Talk Up Toastmasters” Membership Drive is upon us! (Program Dates: February 1 – March 31)… Toastmasters love to talk, so take advantage of it. During the “Talk Up Toastmasters” membership contest, you can encourage your members to invite guests to a special meeting where regular procedures are augmented by a discussion of Toastmasters’ many benefits. Add five new, dual or reinstated members to your roster between February 1 and March 31 to receive a special “Talk up Toastmasters” ribbon to display on your club’s banner. In addition to the ribbon, qualifying clubs earn a special discount code for 10-percent off their next club order. (The discount code expires six months from the date of issue and is not valid with any other offer.)  Applications and payments for members who join between February 1 and March 31 must be received at World Headquarters or online no later than March 31. Each member’s join date as listed on the application must be for February or March. The addition of transfer and charter members does not count for credit toward “Talk Up Toastmasters” credit.  For additional details, see Talk Up Toastmasters (note you must be logged in).  Remember the contest runs from February 1 to March 31. So don’t wait, start planning how your club will add 5 members and qualify for the Talk Up Toastmasters! Award. Challenge every member to get involved and have fun!

Club Coaching Call… If you missed the call with our Region 8 Advisor, Subbi Mathur, earlier this month, you can access the recording here.  If you are currently a club coach or are considering stepping up to that role, you’ll want to check it out!

Bilingual Spanish and English Club… Our first meeting of the Spanish and English Bilingual Toastmasters Club in the New Orleans Metro Area was a huge success.  The next meeting will be on March 9th.  Click here to learn more and RSVP.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the above.
