Greetings, fellow Toastmasters,

Below are some updates from the trio about what’s happening around the District.  As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

How are you?!?!   Our team is concerned for your safety. We experienced some crazy weather in New Orleans yesterday. Employees at the NASA facility and members of our NFC Club were in the buildings when a tornado touched down there. Some of our fellow Toastmasters sustained damage to their vehicles and the building was a mess, but we are thankful that as far as we know, everyone is safe.  If you were impacted by the tornadoes, please let us know how you are and how we can help by contacting our Committee Chair for Disaster Recovery, A.J. Guillot.

Changes to Harmony Strong…  Annie Svaty, Division A Director and champion for our Harmony Strong Program, asked me to pass along to all of you that the program has recently been revised.  We’ve now added an opportunity to earn club points when you invite a toastmaster from another club and they actually do visit.  Also note that the passport holder with the most points will win a coaching session with Ed Tate, our Spring conference keynote speaker.  He is also the coach of Darren Tay, the 2016 World Champion of Public Speaking.  You can access the revised Harmony Strong form by clicking here. The Passport Challenge revised form is located here.

Contest Training and Support…  If you are competing or planning to serve as a judge for the upcoming contests at any level, please attend the free online training offered by Chic Miller tonight at 7:00 PM. Click here to register.  In addition to tonight’s session, please note that Chic and Katie Rigsby will be special guests on the Division A Conference call on Friday, February 10th, at 6:30 PM. Division A Director, Annie Svaty, has extended the invitation to anyone interested in attending.  Chic and Katie will talk about making your contest an event!  The dial in number for the call is (641) 715-0632 and the access code is 520460.

Club Officers Training… Club officer training sessions in Chalmette, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, and Pineville were very successful.  A makeup session is scheduled for Monday, February 13th at 6:00 PM at Herzing in Kenner.  Click here for more information and to register. We are planning one additional makeup session in Beaumont, Texas.  Specifics about that will be sent as soon as the arrangements are confirmed.

Club Coaching Call… Our Region 8 Advisor, Subbi Mathur, will host a Club Coaching Call on Saturday, February 11th at 11:00 AM. If you are currently a club coach or are considering stepping up to that role, please consider attending. To join the meeting on the 1st, click here.

World Champion Coaching Series…   The next featured speaker in our World Champion Coaching Series will be Josephine Lee, 3rd Place winner in the 2016 World Championship.  The call will take place on Sunday, February 12th. Specifics will be provided in a separate email.

Bilingual Spanish and English club… We are starting a Spanish and English Bilingual Toastmasters club in the New Orleans Metro Area. This club will serve the following three groups:

  • Native Spanish speakers who want to improve their English
  • Native English speakers who want to improve their Spanish
  • Native Spanish speakers who want to practice speeches in Spanish

The kickoff meeting of this bilingual club is on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:30 pm. Please click here if you are interested in attending this meeting.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the above.
