Greetings, fellow Toastmasters,
Below are some updates from the trio about what’s happening around the District. As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
FROM DISTRICT DIRECTOR, Tina Guillot, DTM
Thank you… Mohamad and Joel have included many announcements below about the ongoing activities in District 68. As you can see, we are accomplishing a lot of great things! This would not be possible without our District Executive Committee (DEC), Club Officers, and all of the members who’ve stepped up. Thank you to all of you! District 68 rocks!
Emails, Emails, Emails… We’ve struggled to find a happy place with email communication. We heard early on that we were sending too many emails, so we reduced the number of individual emails by sending this “Trio Tribune” update. But then we heard from folks that these combined messages are too long. We ask your cooperation and support in simply glancing over the paragraph headings and reading further as needed. Please do NOT unsubscribe. This might prevent you from getting some important messages and may not work anyway since our lists are updated every couple of weeks with a download from World Headquarters (so you’re simply added back).
FROM PROGRAM QUALITY DIRECTOR, Mohamad Qayoom, DTM
Spring Conference – Save the Date! The District 68 Spring Conference will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Lafayette, LA. Renewals… Club Officers should start collecting membership dues. Toastmasters International’s website will start accepting dues beginning in late February.
Club Officers Training… Club officer training sessions in Chalmette and Baton Rouge were very successful. To register for the upcoming training sessions in Lake Charles, LA or Pineville, LA., please click here. We are planning to host a makeup training in Kenner, LA. Details will be announced soon.
FROM CLUB GROWTH DIRECTOR, Joel Dawson, DTM
Credit for Speaking Outside Your Club… When I was on my journey to accomplishing my DTM, I ran into certain obstacles. The biggest obstacle was finding a venue to obtain certain requirements that were not available during the weekly meetings, for example, organizing a special club event, or giving a speech longer than 5 to 7 minutes. Sometime those events are hard to find.
I’m looking for members in the district who are interested in giving speeches that may require a little more time… 10 to 12 minutes, or even up to 15 minutes! If you need an opportunity to give this type of speech, please let me know!
Contests and Judging… If you’re competing this year or thinking about competing at some point in the future, I highly urge you to attend the “World Champion Speaker Series” webinars. Emails are sent out regularly highlighting each speaker and providing the call information. Join us to get insights on how world champions prepared for the big day! Also, there’s a chance that you may be selected to be a judge in a contest. Please consider attending the session mentioned by Mohamad above.
Free ToastHost Club Website… Richard Wolfe, aka “The Wolfe,” will be hosting a webinar on February 1st at 7:00 p.m. for those clubs that do not have a website on Free ToastHost and would like to create one, or for those that simply need a crash course on how to update the website. Having a club website makes running the day to day business easy as pie for every officer. To join the meeting on the 1st, click here.
Bilingual Spanish and English club… We are starting a Spanish and English Bilingual Toastmasters club in the New Orleans Metro Area. This club will serve the following three groups:
- Native Spanish speakers who want to improve their English
- Native English speakers who want to improve their Spanish
- Native Spanish speakers who want to practice speeches in Spanish
The kickoff meeting of this bilingual club is on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:30 pm. Please click here if you are interested in attending this meeting.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the above.
